ABOUT

SML architectuur is the design practice of Manuel Schnur, based in Antwerp.

The studio works on projects, from careful renovations to new constructions and adaptive reuse, with a focus on proportion, spatial quality, and material expression. Each design is approached as a balance between clarity and character, precision and restraint.

The name SML architectuur reflects an interest in different scales from small to medium to large. Whether designing a piece of furniture, a private home, or a collective building, the same questions recur: how a space relates to its surroundings, how materials define its atmosphere, and how architecture can quietly support daily life.

Projects often begin with what already exists: a structure, a street, or a broader context. Rather than imposing form, the work seeks to uncover potential, creating spaces that feel natural within their setting and relevant over time. Collaboration with clients, engineers, and builders is seen as an essential part of that process, ensuring that each project is both thoughtful and buildable.

Alongside his independent practice, Manuel is part of the team at HUB Architecten, where he contributes to public and large-scale projects. This experience provides a broader perspective on construction, coordination, and the social dimension of architecture, informing a precise and pragmatic approach within the more personal scale of his own studio
